Job Description:
Surgical Services Assistant
Assists and supports the operating room healthcare team by utilizing strong secretarial skills and customer service to manage the operating room service desk, cleaning, stocking supplies, making deliveries and transporting patients.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to identify, disassemble, decontaminate, reassemble and sort all instrumentation and instrument trays used in the operating room
- Ability to follow surgery schedule to assure scopes, instruments and supplies are available as needed
- Safe patient handling; lifting, turning, positioning skills
- Knowledge of surgical supplies and instruments
- Knowledge of sterile environment and technique
- Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
- Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment
- Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public
- Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
- Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
- Demonstrates effective response to patient crisis/emergency situations
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
- Ability to read, write legibly, and converse effectively in the English language
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
EXPERIENCE
- One year experience as a unit secretary in surgical services preferred
- Electronic Medical Record system experience
