Job Description:
Department Support Specialist

Provides administrative support for the hospital department

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment
  • Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public; excellent telephone skills
  • Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates effective response to patient crisis/ emergency situations
  • Strong priority-setting and organizational skills
  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
  • Intermediate administrative skills


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • College level education in secretarial sciences preferred
  • Completion of intermediate medical terminology preferred


For Outpatient Behavioral Health clinic, Wound Care and Rehab Services only:
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) or must be obtained by the last day of the month after the 60 day grace period


EXPERIENCE
  • Two (2) years' medical secretarial experience
  • ICD-10 and CPT coding experience preferred
