Job Description:
Cardiovascular Services Technologist

Uses a variety of specialized equipment in assisting the physician in the performance of all invasive procedures, resulting in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular disease providing the highest level of patient care.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on assigned Department
  • Demonstrates above average technical skills and knowledge
  • Must be able to take call
  • Complete understanding of vascular and related organ anatomy
  • Demonstrates the ability and effectively uses computer and software applications applicable to the position
  • Exhibits the excellent customer service skills and the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public.
  • Demonstrates good team dynamics
  • Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location.
  • Ability to multi-task and self-lead problem solving skills
  • Demonstrates independent judgment and the ability to work self-sufficiently or as part of a team with or without direct supervision
  • Familiar with cardiovascular tests and the administration of duties related to them
  • Must have the working knowledge of but not limited to: computer, telephones, faxing, use of the copy machine, scanning, and the scheduling of cardiology patients.
  • Medical terminology
  • Ability to use the EMR system
  • Knowledge of how to place leads and electrodes
  • Knowledgeable in the safety plans for the unit


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
  • Satisfactory completion of formal specific training in the approved Imaging Technology Program, as relevant to assigned modality (Copy of academic degree/transcript required upon hire if performing Moderate Complexity Testing)
  • Requires current registration with the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI)
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required at date of hire
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Current ARRT (R)
  • Image Wisely pledge certificate or must obtain within 30 days of hire date and annually by January 30 thereafter
  • Image Gently pledge certificate or must obtain within 30 days of hire date and annually by January 30 thereafter
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Bachelor's degree preferred


Additional advanced certification preferred In addition to the above requirements:

Cardiovascular Svc Tech II must also hold one of the following certifications:
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist
  • Vascular Intervention Certification
  • Cardiac Intervention Certification


Job code 630:

Cardiovascular Svc Tech III must also hold two of the following certifications:
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist
  • Vascular Intervention Certification
  • Cardiac Intervention Certification


EXPERIENCE
  • Prior cardiovascular lab experience required
  • Three (3) years relevant experience in a Cardiac Cath lab preferred
  • Previous experience working in a hospital setting preferred

  • Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
  • Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs
  • Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision
  • Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects
  • Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair.
  • May be required to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Must use standard and other isolation precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids or infectious diseases.
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone.
